Cattle Weighing

FRS Cahir now provide a cattle weighing service on your farm.  Regular cattle weighing gives you management of your livestock leading to improved profitability.  Benefits of cattle weighing include

• Help selecting stock for marketing
• Accurate RBI ratings in conjunction with ICBF Herd Plus
• Management information : weighing beef cattle on lorry before despatch to compare to factory returns.
• Regular weighing giving daily liveweight gains enables management of pasture or feed ration or diet changes.
• Understand the cost per kilo live weight gain per animal.
• Information to help you meet the weight specifications of your buyer preventing losses from being over or under weight
• If necessary growth rates can be boosted to avoid costly winter housing or enable cattle to be finished earlier.
• Enables the precise dosing of cattle with worm & fluke remedies.  This prevents expensive overdosing, poor animal performance or the development of parasite resistance through under-dosing.

Freeze Branding

Freeze branding provides a permanent identification for cattle. This permanent identification is easy to read from a distance and is ideal for milking parlours and milk recording. It works by killing the colour pigment in the hair, turning it white within 4-6 weeks.

Relief Milking

Trained personnel provide a relief milking service during a farmers planned or unforseen absence. A fully trained operator will meet the farmer, discuss the requirements for the particular farm setup and do the relief milking on the specified date and times.

FRS Cahir will cater for anything from a one off milking to longer or regular bookings.

Hoof Care

Curative and preventative hoofacre work is carried out by FRS Cahir operators. This service will prevent lameness in Spring and is an effective treatment for lame cows. Claws are expertly pared and if necessary blocks are used to assist the recivery.

Scanning

This service is available to farmers 30 days after insemination. It helps farmers to manage their herd by identifying cows not in calf and establish calving dates.

€3.00 per cow, no callout charge.
